ROXAS City – A roadmap will be pursued by the Provincial Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Council (PMSMEDC) to improve the ranking of this city and the municipalities here in the competitiveness index this year.
This was disclosed by PMSMEDC chairperson Danny So Chan stressing that the council in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will advocate for economic dynamism, government efficiency, and infrastructure developments to achieve the target.
Chan said that the advocacy hopes to pave way for local government units to encourage more business–minded individuals to venture into entrepreneurial activities especially with Republic Act No. 11032 or the “Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018” already in place.
“We will advocate for the immediate implementation of the Panay River Basin Integrated Development Project,” Chan noted on advocacy for infrastructure developments, noting that the project will address problems like flooding, food security, power, and source of potable water, among others.
He added that the council will formally seek the help of Capiz second congressional district Congressman and House Majority Leader Fredenil Castro to be the new champion for PRIDP realization.
PSMEDC will also push for road connectivity of local industries to further the growth of investment and other economic activities in the province.
“We will go around the province to work with LGUs to increase their level of competitiveness this year,” said DTI – Capiz officer-in-charge Ken Cuñada.
She added that the municipality of Dao has been a national winner of the Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index (CMCI) award last year.
A competitive LGU is one of the factors considered by investors when looking for sites for their projects or business ventures, said NEDA–6. (PIA/PN)
