MANILA – The Chinese student who threw a cup of taho (soybean curd) at a police officer was arrested by operatives from the Bureau of Immigration’s (BI) Intelligence Division shortly after she posted bail on Tuesday.
BI spokeswoman Dana Krizia Sandoval said Zhang Jiale was arrested on Tuesday evening as she was the subject of a mission order signed by BI Commissioner Jaime Morente for violating immigration laws.
The 23-year-old Zhang was released from detention by the Mandaluyong police on Tuesday afternoon after posting a P12,000 bail for direct assault, disobedience to an agent of a person in authority and unjust vexation.
“Zhang has already been charged as an undesirable alien for posing as a risk to public interest,” said Sandoval. “The incident showed her disrespect towards persons of authority, which in turn shows her disrespect to the country.”
Zhang, who is currently detained at the BI Warden Facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City, may face deportation and eventual blacklisting, following the said incident. The case is expected to be resolve in the next few weeks.
“Her court case will run independent from her immigration case,” said Sandoval. “If found deportable, we will wait for the resolution of her court case before implementing the deportation,” she added.
Zhang have become viral on Saturday after she splashed her cup of taho at Police Officer 1 William Cristobal, when she was denied entry at the Boni Station of the Metro Rail Transit-3 (MRT-3).
The MRT-3 and the Light Rail Transit have recently intensified its policy on banning food and some forms of liquid inside train stations as part of security measures in light of the bombing incident in Jolo, Sulu./PN
