UAAP Volleyball: 15 West Visayas spikers lead opener today

MANILA – Fifteen Western Visayas-based spikers are set to strut their wares when the UAAP Season 80 men’s and women’s volleyball tournament opens today at the San Juan Arena.

Ateneo de Manila University’s Lady Eagles will have three WV-based players in Ilongga Danielle Theris Ravena and sisters Kassandra and Candice Gequillana from Bacolod City.

University of the Philippines’ Lady Maroons will parade three Region 6 products in Bacolodnons Ma. Arielle Estranero and Jessma Ramos and Pavia, Iloilo native Marianne Sotomil.

Meanwhile, Adamson University’s Lady Falcons have two in Hannah Infante of Bacolod City and La Carlota City native Christine Joy Soyud; the same with National University Lady Bulldogs with Bacolodnon Gelina Luceño and Ilongga Princess Anne Robles.

Dumangas, Iloilo natives Aduke Ogunsaya and Ria Duremdes will return for De La Salle University’s Lady Spikers and Far Eastern University’s Lady Tamaraws, respectively, while Ilongga Rica Rivera is with University of Santo Tomas’ Golden Tigresses.

In the men’s event, only FEU Tamaraws have Western Visayas-based players in their roster – Dumangas natives Reco de Asis and Peter John Quiel and Bacolod City’s Clark Fernandez.

Matches on the opening day are between the Lady Maroons and the University of the East Lady Warriors at 2 p.m. to be followed by the matchup between the Lady Tamaraws and Lady Bulldogs at 4 p.m./PN
