BACOLOD City – Around 200 couples will exchange their wedding vows at the Bacolod City Government Center at 4 p.m. today.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia will be the solemnizing officer, according to City Civil Registrar Hermilo Pa-oon.
The post-Valentine’s Day wedding program in Bacolod was institutionalized by a city ordinance the Sangguniang Panlungsod passed in relation to the Civil Registration Month.
Former president Corazon Aquino issued Proclamation 682 on Jan. 28, 1991, declaring February of every year as Civil Registration Month.
The city ordinance encourages couples “without legal impediment to contract marriage” to enter wedding vows.
Local officials and Philippine Statistics Authority-Negros Occidental provincial head Luis Gonzales will witness the program./PN
