ILOILO City – District Engineer Abraham C. Villareal of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Bacolod City District Engineering Office, along with Maintenance chief, Engr. Alejo T. Germinal personally visited Barangay 16 in Bacolod City to discuss with the barangay Officials and residents the issue on obstructions along the roads, and to check the flow of traffic and pedestrians in the area.
During the meeting, Barangay Kagawad Jude Alson said that three fire incidents broke out in the area recently, wherein fire trucks were unable to penetrate the fire location due to several motorcycles and bicycles parked along the roads, hence aggravated the damaged brought by fire.
In addition, Barangay Captain Erwin Arila said that they have informed Bacolod Traffic Administration Office (BTAO) about the incident, which the latter suggested to conduct a public hearing to discuss with the residents the possible remedies in case similar incident occurs.
One of the remedies initially discussed was a relocated parking space, and Barangay Captain Arila said that they will request the City government to donate a lot to be used as parking area for motorcycles and bicycles, thus traffic and illegal obstructions along the roads of Barangay 16 would be lessened./PN
