ILOILO City – Cong. Jerry P. Treñas is on his way to winning the race for mayor by a majority of 64.2 percent against six other candidates, a survey shows.
In the latest survey conducted by the prestigious Random Access Consultants, Inc. (RACI) with 600 face-to-face respondents from 60 barangays, Treñas surged ahead of the incumbent runner-up, Mayor Jose Espinosa III, who got 23.3 percent.
Espinosa, in turn, is way ahead of third-placer Dr. Pacita Gonzalez, whose 7.8 percent also humbles those of Steve Abitang, 0.8 percent; Mel Carreon, 0.7 percent; Rudy Bantolo, 0.5 percent; and Efren Gimeo, 0.2 percent.
Undecided respondents made up 2.5 percent.
The Feb. 15 to 17, 2019 RACI survey, commissioned by Bombo Radyo Philippines, Inc., covered seven districts with corresponding number of sampled barangays:
* Arevalo, 6
* City Proper, 9
* Jaro, 15
* La Paz, 7
* Lapuz, 5
* Mandurriao, 7; and
* Molo, 11.
The 600 survey respondents, all registered voters in the city, utilized the multi-stage probability something with a level of confidence of 95 percent and margin of error of ± 4 percent.
The survey outcome may be interpreted to mean that six of 10 voters prefer survey leader Treñas, two of 10 for Espinosa and one of 10 for Gonzalez.
The survey is the sixth RACI survey for the mayoral candidates in Iloilo City.
Treñas consistently led previous surveys conducted by RACI beginning March last year.
Before joining the House of Representatives in 2010, Treñas served as Iloilo City mayor for three terms (2001-2004, 2004-2007, 2007-2010).
The survey results inspired him “to do more”, said Treñas.
“Since I started as a public servant I have tried my best to excellently answer the needs of the Ilonggos. I will continue to do so,” he said in a previous interview.
The Ilonggo solon promised to “make sure we can sustain the development in Iloilo city and province.”/PN
