MANILA – De La Salle University Lady Spikers had to dig deep to escape with a 25-10, 20-25, 27-25, 25-22 win over National University Lady Bulldogs in UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball on Wednesday at San Juan Arena.
May Luna topscored with 14 points, while Ilongga Aduke Ogunsaya chipped in career-best 13 markers for the defending champions Lady Spikers, which moved up to solo first place with 3-0 win-loss slate.
After easily winning the opening frame, the Lady Spikers struggled in the second set as the Lady Bulldogs took a 16-12 lead. DLSU came to within 20-21 but Ilongga Princess Robles and Ivy Lacsina chipped in points as NU leveled the set count.
Robles continued to show way for the Lady Bulldogs in the third set with the score tied at 25-all. But an error from Lacsina followed by a conversion by Luna allowed the Lady Spikers to escape.
The Lady Bulldogs kept the match close in the fourth set but the Lady Spikers banked on its wide experience behind Luna, Ogunsaya and Desiree Cheng to escape with the win.
Robles finished with a game-high 18 points, while Lacsina managed 16 markers for the Lady Bulldogs, which dropped to 1-2. Negrense rookie Gelina Luceno had career-best six points.
In the second game, University of the East Lady Warriors cruised to a 20-25, 28-26, 25-23, 25-22 stunner over Adamson University Lady Falcons. Judith Abil posted triple-double 22 points, 20 digs and 21 excellent receptions for the Lady Warriors./PN
