Macau stuns Alab Pilipinas in ASEAN Basketball League

MANILA – Macau Black Bears turned to Filipino-American Mikh McKinney to score a 116-103 stunner over San Miguel-Alab Pilipinas in the 2018-2019 ASEAN Basketball League on Wednesday night at the University of Macau Sports Complex.

McKinney has been on fire since the start of the match to wound up with 40 points, including five three-point conversions, for the Black Bears, which improved to 11-7 win-loss slate.

Anthony Tucker added double-double 25 points and 15 assists, while Ryan Watkins chipped in 20 points and 15 rebounds for the Black Bears, which tied its season-series with Alab at 1-1.

McKinney was on fire early in the match as he drained 12 first quarter points for a 38-11 advantage. Alab Pilipinas continued its struggle in the second frame as the Black Bears widened the lead to 65-40 at the half.

Alab Pilipinas attempted to make a run in the second half behind Renaldo Balkman, Peter John Ramos, and Bobby Ray Parks Jr. but the Black Bears was just on point to build its largest lead at 82-51.

The advantage was still huge for the Black Bears as McKinney hit his 40th point midway in the fourth quarter before the Alab chopped the deficit to 13 points on a last minute run.

Balkman tallied double-double 33 points and 11 rebounds, while Ramos also submitted double-double 19 points and 14 boards while Parks contributed 18 points for Alab Pilipinas, which dropped to 16-4./PN
