ILOILO City – Cong. Jerry P. Treñas has consistently topped the series of six surveys in the race for mayor of this city – five conducted by the prestigious Random Access Consultants, Inc. (RACI) and one by the Manila-based Accu-Poll from March 2018 to February 2019.
Treñas kicked off with a comfortable lead in the first RACI survey done on March 16 to 18, 2018 with 63.7 percent; followed by Mayor Jose Espinosa III, 24.7 percent.
The second survey on July 27 to 29, 2018 showed Treñas way ahead with 62.2 percent; and first runner-up Espinosa trailed behind with 29.5 percent.
In these first two surveys, candidate Dr. Pacita Gonzalez had not yet declared her decision to run.
In the third survey (Sept. 14 to 16, 2018), Treñas slid down to 60.2 percent; so did Espinosa to 27.3 percent. Gonzalez, included for the first time, was on third with 10.3 percent.
The fourth survey (Nov. 24 to 25, 2018) gave 58 percent to Treñas, 28.3 percent to Espinosa and 9.5 percent to Gonzalez.
The fifth survey (this time by Accu-Poll, December 2018) upped Treñas to 59 percent while Espinosa went down to 21 percent and Gonzalez to seven percent.
Treñas picked up his highest percentage at 64.2 percent in the sixth and latest survey (Feb. 16-17, 2019); Espinosa, 23.3 percent; and Gonzalez, 7.8 percent.
Aside from the three, there are four other candidates trailing behind, whose percentage points are included in the accompanying overall table of preference.
“Since I started as a public servant I have tried my best to excellently answer the needs of the Ilonggos. I will continue to do so,” said Treñas in a previous interview.
Before joining the House of Representatives in 2010, Treñas served as Iloilo City mayor for three terms (2001-2004, 2004-2007, 2007-2010)./PN
