Ateneo Lady Eagles beat UE Lady Warriors in UAAP

MANILA – Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles make a quick work of the University of the East Lady Warriors, 25-15, 25-21, 25-16, in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball on Sunday at the San Juan Arena.

Kat Tolentino top-scored with 13 points, on eight attacks, three blocks and two service aces, while Madeleine Madayag added 11 markers for the Lady Eagles, which have won its third straight game for a share of top spot with 3-1 win-loss slate.

The Lady Eagles surged to an 8-2 start in the opening set behind hits from Tolentino and Jules Samonte. The lead grew further to 16-7 midway in the set allowing Ateneo to easily close the set.

Consecutive hits from Tolentino early in the second set allowed the Lady Eagles to build an 8-3 lead. The Lady Warriors mounted a late fight back but Ateneo came up with clutch hits to build a 2-0 set lead.

The Lady Warriors were keeping in step with the Lady Eagles early in the third with an 8-7 score but Ateneo slowly pulled away on hits from Tolentino and Madayag for a double-digit spread.

Judith Abil finished with 14 points, all coming from attacks, to go along with 18 excellent receptions while Kath Arado contributed 13 excellent digs for the Lady Warriors, which dropped to 1-3.

Meanwhile, Adamson University Lady Falcons finally barge into the win column following a 25-15, 25-19, 25-22 straight set win over National University Lady Bulldogs. Bernadette Flora led the way with 15 points, on 13 attacks and two blocks for the Lady Falcons./PN
