MANILA Premier got a huge lift from their Western Visayas recruits to wrest the National Capital Region (NCR) Meet 2019 secondary girls volleyball crown at the Our Lady of Perpetual Succor College in Marikina City.
Negrense Shaira Mae Jardio, Guimaras native Camille Lamina, and Bacolodnon Caroline Santos played a key role in Manila’s 25-5, 25-11, 25-16 victory over Makati City.
Jardio was later named as the best digger, while Lamina was hailed as the best setter for the National University Bullpups-backed Manila. NU’s Alyssa Solomon was MVP while Mhichaela Belen was best attacker.
For Jardio – a Talisay, Negros Occidental native – it was a weird feeling to be part of the Palarong Pambansa 2019 qualifier Manila Premier after being part of Western Visayas squad in last year’s edition.
“I am happy to be part of Manila Premier at qualified kami sa Palarong Pambansa but ‘yun nga lang medyo weird kasi makakalaban ko ang Western Visayas,” said Jardio, who transferred to Bullpups earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Manila Premier rode on another strong showing from Ilonggo guard Gerry Abadiano as they defeated the Mandaluyong City team in the secondary boys basketball finals.
Abadiano, a former standout of St. Robert’s International Academy, was named as the Most Valuable Player. Also part of the Manila Premier team were Negrense Reyland Torres and Bacolodnon Harold Alarcon./PN
