MANILA – Ilonggo boxer Denver Cuello will make his ring return as he battles Indonesian fighter Jack Amisa for the vacant ABF flyweight championship tonight at the Angono Rizal Gymnasium.
The Cabatuan, Iloilo native said he is more than excited to stepped back in the ring for the first time since his technical knockout win over Thai boxer Boy Tanto in 2015.
“I am happy that I am given another opportunity to fight again and have another shot at winning a world championship,” said Cuello, a former WBC silver minimumweight champion.
The 32-year-old boxer will be entering the ring with an impressive 36-5-6 win-loss-draw ring record, including 24 stoppage wins, while Amisa has 21-45-2 boxing slate, with 14 knockout victories.
Also making a return to boxing scene is Negrense Sonny Boy Jaro, who will battle a new opponent in Indonesian Boido Simanjuntak with original foe Frans Damur Palue facing passport issue.
“Ready na tayo sa ating boxing return,” said the 36-year-old Jaro. “Kahit na medyo matagal tayong walang fight ay siniguro ko naman na ako ay kondisyon para sa fight na ito.”
Jaro, a former WBC flyweight champion, will parade a 44-14-5 win-loss-draw ring record, including 31 stoppage victories, while the 34-year-old Simanjuntak has 24-53-2 boxing slate, with 10 knockout wins.
The boxing card dubbed as “Return of the Champions” is presented by Highland and DMAD International Promotions in coordination with the Angono, Rizal local government./PN
