CRISTINE Reyes, known for her sexy dramatic roles, has a fresh undertaking as the titular character of “Maria,” a housewife with a mysterious past as a ruthless assassin.
The Pedring Lopez movie, due for release on March 27, follows a woman out for blood after her family is hunted down by a group she formerly had ties with.
The trailer for the Viva Films production hints that Maria has long kept secret her past as a cartel assassin, until she is faced with threats and subsequently seeks revenge.
Speaking with ABS-CBN News’ Mario Dumaual, Reyes said that while challenging, she relished the physical demands of the portraying Maria.
“Malaki ‘yung paghihirap, but at the same time, ito ‘yung masasabi kong nag-enjoy ako gawin na pelikula. Hindi naman kasi ako girly-girly type na person, kaya I guess nakaya kong gawin ‘yung action,” Reyes said.
Reyes, 30, has background in jiu jitsu and mixed martial arts – a fact that helped her adjust faster to the fight choreography. (ABS-CBN News)
