JAYVEE Mocon is making a case for the PBA Rookie of the Year plum with his fine performance for the quarterfinals-bound Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the 2019 Honda PBA Philippine Cup.
The former San Beda wigman normed 5.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in the five games Rain or Shine played en route to becoming PBA Press Corps Rookie of the Month for February.
Mocon, the sixth overall pick in the 2018 PBA Rookie Draft, played an averaged 20.18 minutes per outing and started in two out of those five games and was the leading rebounder of the team during that stretch where they won all of their matches.
āFor me itās not about the number. As a player Iām here to provide what I can for the team,ā said Mocon. āI donāt mind if Iām not the first, second, or third pick as long as I help the team improve and they see what Iām capable of.ā
Mocon jumpstarted the month with 18 points, 17 rebounds, and four assists as the Painters stunned reigning and defending champion San Miguel Beer, 108-98, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Mocon bested top rookie pick Jaymar Perez of Columbian Dyip for the monthly honor after the latter posted averages of 15.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in three games.
Others who vied for the monthly honor were Alaskaās Jasper Ayaay (7.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists), Kris Porter of NLEX (6.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists), and Robert Bolick of NorthPort (9.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists).
NBA-SBP COACHESā CLINIC
The Negros Basketball Association (NBA) and the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) are set to hold a Basketball Clinic for Level 1 Grassroots Coaches on March 16-17, 2019 at St. Johnās Institute in Bacolod City.
NBA head Oscar āDodongā Bascon said that the two-day event will cater Level 1 grassroots coaches and is highly recommended for Physical Education (PE) Teachers, PE Majors in both elementary and high school levels.
Following the two-day clinic, the participants are set to undergo written exam which the SBP Coachesā Commission will check and results will be sent to participants through their respective Regional Director after 15 days.
Registration fee for the clinic is pegged at P200.00 excluding of event T-Shirt (P 350) – optional and SBP Coachesā ID processing fee (P 200). Participants must provide 2 pieces 2×2 ID picture (colored with white background).
