MANILA – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts and a Silay City selection split the championships in the Philippine Volleyball Federation – Tanduay Athletics Volleyball at the Montalbo Covered Court in Bacolod City.
The Thunderbolts took the championship in the under-15 category on Sunday by defeating the Calvary Baptist Academy in the gold medal round behind the strong showing of Sophie Cagalawan.
Also part of the team that was handled by coach Charisse Neri were Amber Lily Biong, Sandy Sta. Rita, Jothea Ramos, Ana Hermosura, Alijah Ysulan, Jermaine Joniega, AJ Palo, Jihan Chuatico, Dannah Saloria, and Antheia Galicia.
Other teams that participated in the U-15 were Talisay, Murcia National High School, Mabini Elementary School, Rizal Elementary School, Negros Occidental High School, and FMT Volleyball Club.
The Silay selection, on the other hand, bagged the championship in the under 18 category after defeating Bata National High School in the finals.
Honey Grace Cordero was hailed as the best player of the Silay team.
Also participating in the U-18 were Negros Occidental High School, Himamaylan National High School, St. Scholastica’s Academy, Pulupandan National High School, La Carlota National High School, and Bacolod City High School.
The one-day volleyball tournament, organized in cooperation NEFVEI, Philippine Volleyball Federation, Wow TMR and Tanduay Athletics, was a grassroots program to discover potential volleyball players in Negros Occidental./PN
