SAN JOSE, Antique – The Provincial Health Office (IPHO) is warning the public against dengue as summer looms.
“We should always take preventive measures against dengue such as covering our water containers so that the mosquito dengue carrier will not breed in it,” said Dr. Ric Noel Naciongayo, Provincial Health Officer II, last Tuesday.
Naciongayo said these water containers are the “favorite breeding places” of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
In Antique, a total of 90 cases of dengue were recorded from Jan. 1 to March 2 this year, higher than the 89 cases recorded in the same period last year.
There are no reported deaths from dengue so far in the province, based on monitoring of the PHO.
This capital town has the highest recorded number of dengue cases, with 14 as of March.
Sibalom and Culasi towns followed with 12 cases each.
Barbaza town in the northern part of Antique has 11 cases while Hamtic has eight.
The towns Pandan and Tibiao have five cases each, Patnongon and Tobias Fornier have four cases each, and Belison has three.
Anini-y, Laua-an, Libertad, Sebaste and San Remigio, meanwhile, have two cases each.
Bugasong and Caluya have one reported case each.
Only the municipality of Valderrama has no reported dengue cases out of the total 18 towns in the province. (With a report from PNA/PN)
