SAN JOSE, Antique – The Fast Cat’s roll on, roll off ship (RORO) facility will be a bright spot for the tourism industry in Caluya, said Antique Gov. Rhodora Cadiao.
“The RORO operation is another milestone, another dream come true for Antiqueños,” Cadiao said.
Fast Cat will have its maiden voyage from Lipata Port in Culasi to Caluya, Antique to Mindoro and finally to Batangas City, she added.
Cadiao said the Fast Cat’s RORO facility will boost the tourism industry in the province once it is fully operational on April.
Cadiao said with the RORO vessel, the once five-hour travel time to Caluya would be cut into half.
“We will further introduce Caluya to tourists with the available RORO vessel,” she said.
The provincial tourism office has been promoting Caluya Island as one of the major tourism destinations in Antique.
The RORO vessel could also transport tourist vehicles to the island.
Based on the provincial tourism report, Caluya had a total of 58,663 domestic tourist visitors from Jan. to Dec. last year.
The Caluya Island is known for its fresh seafood and famed coconut crabs, locally known as “tatus”, which is the centerpiece of the municipality’s Tatusan Festival held every May. (With a report from PNA/PN)
