DLSU take down FEU in UAAP women’s volleyball

MANILA – De La Salle University Lady Spikers showed that they still have Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws’ numbers with a 25-15, 25-19, 26-24 sweep in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball on Saturday at the San Juan Arena.

Ernestine Tiamzon tallied 13 points, while May Luna added 10 markers for the Lady Spikers, which tied University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses at second spot with 5-2 win-loss slate.

The three-time defending champions Lady Spikers reasserted its mastery on the Lady Tamaraws early on as it opened the first set with a 16-6 advantage all the way for a 1-0 set edge.

It was almost the same scenario for the Lady Spikers in the second frame with Tiamzon, Luna and rookie Jolina dela Cruz coming up with powerful hits to take a 22-15 advantage.

DLSU opened the third set with an 8-1 score but the FEU showed some life as it forced several deadlocks with last at 24-all but the Lady Spikers got away with straight set win on back-to-back errors by the Lady Tamaraws.

Nung first two sets, nagulat ‘yung FEU. Grinab namin ‘yung opportunity na habang ganoon ‘yung kinikilos nila, capitalize namin,” said Lady Spikers mentor Ramil de Jesus. “Nung third nakakonekta sila kinapitan lang naming ‘yung third set.”

Rookie Lycha Ebon ended up with 10 points, while Jerrilli Malabanan contributed nine markers for the Lady Tamaraws, which dropped to 4-3 win-loss card.

Meanwhile on Sunday afternoon, the UST Golden Tigresses cruised to its third straight victory in the UAAP after a 25-18, 25-14, 25-20 sweep over University of the East Lady Warriors./PN
