MANILA – Petron-Letran Knights showed its poise on their way to an 89-64 domination over McDavid in the 2019 PBA Developmental League on Monday at the Paco Arena in Manila.
Jeo Ambohot top-scored with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Jerrick Balanza made 12 points, four assists, and two steals for the Knights, which hiked its win-loss card to 2-1.
“Actually it’s a good win for a young team against a veteran team,” said Knights head coach Bonnie Tan. “Again, we’re here to learn and to get experience sa mga ganitong laro.”
The Knights failed to hang on to a 17-point lead it built late in the second quarter following a strong third quarter run by the McDavid behind Dahrrell Caranguian to cut the deficit to 54-58.
But the Knights responded by opening the fourth quarter with 10-0 scoring run to restore order, 70-54, with 7:52 on the clock. They would go on to lead by as many as 26 in the final seconds.
Caranguian was the lone double-digit scorer with 15 points, while Michole Sorela and Rogermar Menor contributed nine markers apiece for the McDavid, which has now lost its third straight outing.
St. Clare College-Virtual Reality gained a share of the top spot in the Aspirants Group after surviving Batangas-EAC Generals, 80-73. Junjie Hallare powered St. Clare with 18 points and 15 rebounds./PN
