2 homebound men ambushed

BACOLOD City – Two men on board a Ford Everest car were ambushed in Sitio Dungga, Barangay Maricalum, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental.

Sipalay City police head Chief Inspector Anthony Grande said a certain “Rex” did not survive.

His companion – who was identified as 30-year-old Jomar Garcia of Barangay Magballo, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental – was currently receiving treatment at the Kabankalan District Hospital.

Rex – who was driving the car – and Garcia were on their way home from Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental when about 10 armed men attacked them around 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday, a police report showed.

Grande said Rex and Garcia were the only people inside the Ford Everest, dismissing reports that Sipalay City councilor Jonathan Eran was there, too.

Rex and Garcia were initially brought to the Sipalay City Infirmary for treatment. They sustained multiple gunshot wounds on the body.

They were later transferred to the Kabankalan District Hospital where Rex expired at around 1 a.m. on Thursday.

Investigation into the incident was ongoing./PN
