WV spikers enter Beach Volleyball Republic quarters

NEGRENSE Bea Tan and Dij Rodriguez of Perlas Lady Spikers are on course to second straight title after reaching the quarterfinals round of the Beach Volleyball Republic On Tour Santa Fe Open on Saturday at Bantayan Island in Cebu.

Tan and Rodriguez found LNMB-Tanjay’s Natsu Kilamura and Katrina Epa a tough nut to crack in the second set before fashioning out a 21-9, 22-20 victory to jumpstart its bid on a bright note.

Tan and Rodriguez, the champions of the Puerto Galera leg earlier this month, formalized their entry to the quarterfinals with a 21-7, 21-13 romp of SWU’s Chyne Mae Saberon and Nicole Ricaborda.

Ilongga siblings Roma Joy and Roma Mae Doromal of NU-Boysen also claimed a spot in the quarterfinals after sweeping University of San Carlos’ Jinianne Kyrch Berdos and Rose Malagar, 21-14, 21-13, and Air Force’s May Ann Pantino and Jozza Cabalsa.

Bacolod City pair Bianca Lizares and Margie Señas, meanwhile, also had a winning start as they turned back PetroGazz tandem of Jonah Sabete and Melanie Torres, 21-16, 21-15.

University of St. La Salle-Bacolod’s Nohlin Jundana and Ceejay Recayo, on the other hand, suffered a 20-22, 22-20, 11-15 defeat at the hands of Cebu’s Therese Ramas and Krizia Talacero.
