PH Premier League delays football season opener

MANILA – To allow two of its members to complete the needed requirements, the Philippine Premier League (PPL) decided to postpone its season opener to next month.

In a statement, the PPL said it is postponing its opening from March 30 to April 27 to allow the Mendiola Football and Philippine Air Force to comply with all the criteria set out in the Philippine Football Federation club licensing regulations for the 2019 season.

“It is hoped that with the additional time the two teams can be granted provisional club licenses that will permit them to join the league this season. We are taking this step to comply with the directives of the Philippine Football Federation,” the PPL said.

Green Archers United Football Club, which also applied for a license, has been granted a provisional license to become one of the seven teams in the country’s top tier tournament.

Other participating squads were Philippine Football League champions Ceres-Negros FC and Kaya-Iloilo FC, Stallion Laguna FC and United Makati FC (formerly Global-Cebu FC).

The PPL, which is a reboot of the Philippines Football League (PFL), will run from the end of April to December and matches to be held in Metro Manila.

Just like in the PFL, PPL will have two conferences with the first being the League, which is a three round-robin contest, and the Copa Paulino Alcantara, where the teams will fight among their group mates./PN
