MANILA – Javee Mocon scored on a game-winning tip in as the Rookies-Sophomores All-Stars cruised to a 141-140 win over Juniors in the 2019 PBA All-Star Weekend on Friday night at Calasiao Sports Complex in Pangasinan.
Mocon, a rookie out of Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, was at the right place at a right time as he converted on a missed jumper by Jaymar Perez at the buzzer to escape a hairline of a victory.
Mocon finished the match with 18 points, five rebounds, and four assists but it was Perez of Columbian Dyip who was hailed as the exhibition match MVP with 32 points, eight rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Down by as much as 119-129 with over five minutes in the match, the Rookies/Sophomores banked on the exploits of Perez, who tallied 18 points in the fourth quarter, to turn things around.
Jeron Teng also contributed 19 points and seven rebounds, while Robbie Herndon and Andres Paul Desiderio also finished with double-digits in scoring with 16 and 11 markers, respectively.
Rashawn McCarthy, meanwhile, tallied 24 points, two assists, and two steals, Roger Pogoy added 20 points and six rebounds, Mike Tolomia and Jiovani Jalalon had 15 and 14 markers, respectively, for the Juniors team.
PBA All-Star Weekend promoter Double V Productions have pledged to donate a total of 44 wheelchairs to the Alagang PBA Foundation with both teams making 34 triples and 10 dunks in the match./PN
