CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga – The Philippine Construction Industry Roadmap 2020-2030 that aims to shape the future capacity, values, and institutional integrity of the country’s construction industry for the next 10 years was launched March 28 at the ASEAN Convention Center inside this Freeport.

Dubbed as the “future of the construction industry,” the launching of the roadmap was the major highlight of the Philconstruct Luzon Roadshow here being held from March 28 to 30.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) secretary Ramon Lopez, in his speech during the opening of the event, said the roadmap is proof of the national government’s holistic commitment to improving the quality of construction services consistent with principles of sustainability, increasing the number of globally competitive Filipino players, and equipping the whole project cycle with efficient and modern technologies.

“The roadmap will ensure the sustainability of the construction industry’s competitiveness and growth, complementing the government’s massive infrastructure program, ‘Build, Build, Build’,” Lopez said.

The DTI secretary also cited the contribution of the construction industry to the Philippine economy, covering 16 percent of the total gross domestic product (GDP) growth in production. Notably, there were 158,664 construction projects around the country in 2018.

Lopez also underscored the government’s “Build, Build, Build” flagship program which is greatly helping to propel construction growth in the country.

With the theme “Tatag at Tapat 2030”, the roadmap aims to steer the industry toward the “Golden Age of Infrastructure”. It was prepared by the Reid Foundation and commissioned by the DTI-Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines and the Philippine Constructors’ Association.

The targeted total spending for the industry under the roadmap is a minimum of P40 trillion and maximum of P130 trillion within the 10-year period.

Meanwhile, event chairman Jerry Pancho thanked the DTI Secretary not only for gracing the event but also for choosing the Philconstruct Luzon Roadshow as venue to launch the roadmap.

“Your support in this event gives a new level of optimism as we open the show. We are all aware of the robust actions of the government towards the “Build Build Build” program, and one of these major projects is the activation of the New Clark Green City, which is one of the reasons Clark, Pampanga is soon going to be the country’s future metropolis. Philconstruct, being a proven platform that contributes to the development of construction businesses, expect that we will continue to strengthen this partnership,” Pancho said.

For his part, Morris Agoncillo, president of the Philippine Constructors Association, said “we are overwhelmed with the support and partnerships that we are acquiring time and time again. Philconstruct is the biggest construction show in the country and is now on its 30th year.”

The roadshow was initiated by the Department of Trade and Industry-Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines (DTI-CIAP), in partnership with the Philippine Constructors’ Association. (PNA)
