MARWIN Angeles came up with a late hit as Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo settled for a 1-1 draw with the Indonesia’s PSM Makassar in the 2019 AFC Cup on Tuesday at the Pakansari Stadium in Cibinong, Indonesia.

With the outcome, Kaya-Iloilo and PSM Makassar remained tied on top of Group H with five points each on one victory and two deadlocks making each of their remaining matches important.

Kaya-Iloilo had the first crack of taking the lead when Jordan Mintah was left behind by the PSM Makassar defense, but his attempt the score past Rivki Mokodompit was thwarted.

Save for two wide attempts of Kaya-Iloilo’s Darryl Roberts, PSM Makassar dominated the possession in the opening half with captain Wiljan Pluim having most of the chances to score.

Following series of misses to start the second half, PSM Makassar finally broke the scoreless deadlock with Eero Markkanen stepping forward to put the ball in the back of the net at the 56th minute.

Kaya-Iloilo became aggressive in trying to put on the equalizer the rest of the way with header attempts from Connor Tacagni and Yannick Tuazon but all were saved by the defense.

With time almost elapsed, PSM Makassar conceded a free-kick after Angeles was left by the defense in the box with time to control the ball on his chest and volley home past the Indonesian keeper.

Kaya-Iloilo and PSM Makassar will once again fight for the group stage lead when they meet on April 17 at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City./PN
