ROXAS City – To improve the bamboo industry’s competitiveness in the province, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) gave P4 million worth equipment for the upgrading of shared service facilities (SSF) on bamboo processing.
DTI assistant regional director Ermelinda Pollentes said the SSF project will help the community–based producers of bamboo crafts and furniture to work for more quality products and eventually create a name in the regional and national markets.
The municipalities of Dumalag and Dao in Capiz received around P3 million worth of tools like joint and thickness planers; circular, band and arm saws; and automatic linear sharping and pressing machines aside from dust collector, single spindle molder with feeder, bench drill, wide belt sander, air compressor, laminating table press, kiln dryer, and grinder for planer knives.
The upgraded bamboo processing SSF are expected to further benefit the rehabilitated bamboo plantations in Dumalag town which are again yielding mature logs for building materials, furniture, and engineered bamboo tiles and byproducts.
“We would like to encourage and remind our beneficiaries to take advantage and exercise prudence in the utilization of the facility,” said DTI provincial office head Ken Cuñada.
The DTI provincial office is also set to launch the SSF of Capiz Innovation Center with an allocation of P10.4 million fund and a dairy processing center worth P960,000.
SSF is one of the project endeavors of DTI as part of its key strategies to create more jobs through a shared system and to achieve an inclusive growth for the country. (With a report from PIA/PN)
