KAYA Futbol Club-Iloilo will aim for the group stage lead in their rematch with Indonesia’s PSM Makassar in the 2019 AFC Cup today at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
Kaya Iloilo and PSM Makassar will break the tie in their match at three in the afternoon today with both teams tied on top of Group H with five points on one victory and two draws.
After settling for a 1-1 draw in the first encounter on April 2, Kaya Iloilo head coach Noel Marcaida is hoping to learn from their mistakes the last time around to score a win against the visiting Indonesians.
“I think we all know the importance of this game. The result will determine who will be top of the group,” Marcaida said. “We’re excited and looking forward to play against PSM at home.”
He added: “It was a really tough game the last time around. PSM were really dangerous whenever they received the ball in front of our defensive line. It was not our best performance but with the heart showed by the players we were able to force a draw.”
Marwin Angeles, who scored the game-tying goal for Kaya-Iloilo in the first meet up, said that they have prepared hard for the rematch and is hoping to clinch a win in front of the Bacolodnons.
“It would give us a boost if ever we win the game. We’ve been training really hard. We know already what to do, so we just need to do our job and try to win the game and bring more confidence for the next games,” said Angeles.
Spearheading the Iloilo City-based football club were new recruits in Louis Michael Casas, Tyler Matas, Darryl Roberts, Yannick Tuazon, and former Philippine Azkals mainstay Simone Rota.
Also part of Kaya-Iloilo roster were Negrenses Camelo Tacusalme, Jayson Panhay, Jalsor Soriano, Janrick Soriano, and Arnie Pasinabo and Ilonggos Jovin Bedic and Shirmar Felongco./PN
