ILOILO City – Four new buildings amounting to total of P12.0 million were completed and turned-over recently by the Department of Public Works Highways (DPWH), Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office to Caningay National High School-Banga Extension in Candoni, Negros Occidental.
District Engineer Haydee S. Alunan said the projects include one unit 1-Storey ICT Laboratory in the amount of P2.824 million; one unit 1-Storey Science Laboratory amounting to P2.824 million; one unit 1-Storey Regular Workshop costing P2.843 million; and one unit 1-Storey, 2-CL building for senior high school students amounting to P2.847 million, all funded under the District’s Basic Educational Facilities Fund (BEFF), implemented in convergence with the Department of Education (DepEd).
“The laboratory buildings were laterally built in a communal area of the school that will provide an adequate area and venue for the senior high school students in their laboratory activities,” Alunan said.
“These buildings were purposely built in support to the nationwide implementation of DepEd’s K-12 Program, including the remote municipalities in the country,” she added.
In addition, Mr. Eric L. Singuan, the school principal, said the buildings are beneficial towards academic excellence and skills development despite being located in remote area.
“Carrying out the K-12 program in an area like Candoni is quite challenging but we thank all line agencies like DPWH, that despite of the remoteness of our school, they were able to deliver additional school buildings for our students,” he stressed.
Meantime, the District Office has completed the construction of multi-purpose building (covered court) in Talubangi National High School in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
Said project, in the amount of P2.0 million, will serve as venue for various activities and programs of the school and its neighboring barangays as well as evacuation center in times of disasters and calamities.
“We are grateful for the realization of this project. Our students will no longer be exposed to the scorching heat of the sun during our flag raising ceremony and other school events. Rest assured that we will take care of the building and will not hesitate to share this to the neighboring communities,” said Ms. Dina D. Gatilago, the school principal./PN
