ILONGGOS Althea Rose Martirez and John Benedict Santiago came up with two gold medals each during the Oriental Mindoro Leg of the Palawan Pawnshop Age Group Tennis Tournament in Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro.
Martirez, a standout from Central Philippine University, emerged as champion after defeating Idao Frances Lorin of Batangas in the finals of 16-and-under and 18-and-under girls category.
Martirezās victory was a good preparation as she is set to represent the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association in the 2019 Palarong Pambansa in Davao City.
Santiago, on the other hand, ruled the 14-and-under boys singles by beating fellow Ilonggo Jeff Jimenea. Santiago and Jimenea then teamed up to conquer the 14-and-under boys doubles.
Santiagoās golden feat came after also capturing double golds in the Iloilo Junior Tennis Cup 2019 at La Paz last January.
For their double gold medals feat, Martirez and Santiago was hailed as the Most Valuable Player in the girls and boys category of the said tournament./PN
