BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office should intensify its implementation of the ordinance regulating “riding in tandem” in this capital city, according to Councilor Dindo Ramos.
Ramos, chairman of the Sanguniang Panlungsod Committee on Transportation, stressed that there must be a “massive” enforcement of the ordinance so that its impact be felt.
City Ordinance 832 series of 2017 makes it unlawful for any driver and back rider to ride in tandem on a motorcycle on any day from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. in Bacolod.
Ramos was the proponent of the ordinance, which aims to curb the number of crimes in the city during nighttime.
Back riders constrained to ride a motorcycle due to emergencies and those who need to travel at night because of their occupation (like call center agents and security personnel, among others) are exempted.
But these workers should present a valid ID to the authorities.
Penalties await those who are caught breaking the ordinance. The driver will be fined P300 and/or imprisonment for three days while the back-rider, a P200 fine and/or imprisonment for two days./PN
