ILOILO – The barangay captain of Abangay, Dingle, Iloilo was arrested for possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The 52-year-old Carlito Jubelag was taken to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) provincial detention cell in Iloilo City after his arrest around 6 a.m. on May 6.
CIDG operatives raided Jubelag’s house and recovered a 12-gauge shotgun, a .39 revolver and ammunition.
According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Gantang, CIDG provincial chief, Jubelag’s guns were homemade and he failed to show documents showing legal ownership of the items recovered.

The CIDG secured a search warrant from Judge Domingo Casiple of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 6 prior to yesterday’s operation against Jubelag.
According to Gantang, concerned residents of Barangay Abangay complained often seeing their village chief carrying a gun.
“He was surprised when we entered his house but he did not offer resistance,” said Gantang.
Jubelag faces charges for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
“We have more targets possessing unlicensed guns. We will get them,” said Gantang.
