ILOILO – Four persons were arrested for suspected vote-buying in Ajuy, Iloilo yesterday around 3:30 p.m.
The following were taken to the municipal police station after they were cornered in Sitio Pangpang, Barangay Poblacion, Ajuy: Fe Durban, 50; Nemia Arellado, 58; Solomon Unay, 52; and Edwin Yamsong, 59.
All the suspects were residents of Barangay Poblacion, Ajuy, said Police Major John Van Herson Luspo, municipal police chief.
The police station was informed of the alleged vote-buying so it sent cops to Sitio Pangpang, according to Colonel Marlon Tayaba, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office.
Recovered from the suspects were the following: two sample ballots; one white envelope containing P1,000 bill; two white envelops; lists of voters in Barangay Poblacion, Ajuy; and one table and four chairs
According to Tayaba, information reached his office that the suspects were working for a certain “Tupas.”
The suspects face a charge for violation of the Omnibus Election Code, said Tayaba./PN
