SHE said that she wasn’t taken seriously.
And seeing how Julia Barretto felt a little bad about it, “Tonight With Boy Abunda,” during the show’s interview with her Tuesday, gave her the opportunity to do a proper audition for the role of Darna.
She put on a part of the iconic costume, reenact the heroine’s famous transformation scene, and answer why she deserved the chance to portray the character onscreen.
The actress was one of the first names suggested as a possible replacement for Liza Soberano, who backed out due to a finger injury.
In an earlier interview, she thanked those fans who considered her for the role: “Thank you so much for even thinking about me. I mean that’s a huge thing, that’s huge. Thank you.”
She was on the late-night talk show to promote her new movie, “Between Maybes,” from Black Sheep, the production studio behind the hit movie, “Alone/Together,” showing this Wednesday.
DANIEL OR JAMES?
There was an audible gasp from a person in the room when James Reid’s picture was shown.
Julia Barretto was playing the “Tonight With Boy Abunda” game where she had to answer yes, no, or maybe to a photo of an actor. The context was if she was willing to act as their leading lady.
“Yes, I’m willing to work with him. Baka interesting iyong dynamics,” she said, although she added that she’s “not sure” if she and Reid can be considered “friends.”
It was around 2015 when Reid and Barretto were the subject of dating rumors. Reid denied it then, and later on acknowledged his relationship with onscreen partner Nadine Lustre.
Barretto similarly found love and is now dating Joshua Garcia.
Some of the other names Barretto was asked about were Daniel Padilla, Jericho Rosales (one of her aunt Claudine’s favorite leading men, she shared), Vice Ganda, and Ian Veneracion.
The others were Marco Gumabao and Donny Pangilinan, and even Hollywood actors such as Noah Centineo and Tom Holland. (ABS-CBN News)
