BORACAY – Mayor-elect Ciceron Cawaling of Malay, Aklan is calling for unity of stakeholders in this word-famous island.
After the Commission on Elections proclaimed his victory, Cawaling said it is time to work together for the future of Boracay Island and the first-class municipality of Malay.
“Kailangan pagtulungan natin na magkaroon ng tamang relasyon ang national at local governments. Kalimutan na natin ang nakalipas, moving forward tayo,” he said.
The mayor-elect also expressed his plans to discuss the ongoing rehabilitation efforts in the island with national agencies and Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force.
“Kailangan din ang pagkakaisa lalong lalo na ang mga barangay. Mag-oopisina tayong muli sa ating material recovery facility dahil doon ang pinakamalaking problema sa isla,” he said.
In Boracay Island, Cawaling garnered 10,586 votes against his closest opponent John Yap, who got 7,148 votes and independent candidate Rodgiet Ranara with 1,010 votes in barangays of Yapak, Manoc-Manoc and Balabag.
Cawaling also got 5,691 votes in 14 barangays in the capital town of Malay.
The incoming mayor said he wants to sustain the tourism growth of the island and its solid waste management practices.
“Ayusin nating lahat lalo na sa ikakabuti at tamang implementasyon ng mga tourism and environmental laws here in Boracay,” said Cawaling. (With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
