MANILA – The second package of tax reforms would not be passed under the current Congress, Senate Finance chair Sonny Angara said Wednesday.
The Senate needs more time to study the measure that seeks to lower corporate income taxes and streamline fiscal incentives for several sectors, Angara told reporters on the sidelines of the Senate proclamation in Pasay City.
“The TRABAHO bill masalimuot ‘yun, marami pang pag-uusapan dun,” Angara said.
“That one I’m pretty sure it won’t pass this Congress,” he said.
The 17th Congress would come to a close on the noon of June 30, 2019. The House passed the Trabaho bill on third and final reading last year.
Angara did not directly respond to questions on whether he would still want to head the Senate Finance Committee that pushed for the first tranche of the tax reform law that was blamed for spikes in prices of oil and basic commodities.
“Mahirap magsabi ng personal options kasi it is a collegial decision,” he said. (ABS-CBN News)
