‘Cannabis peddlers’ caught in Aklan

KALIBO, Aklan – Two suspected drug pushers were arrested in a buy-bust operation in New Washington, Aklan.

Wednesday’s late afternoon sting operation led to the apprehension of 26-year-old Jessie Jem Batoleno of Sitio Kamanggahan, Barangay Tambak, New Washington and Darwin Dela Cruz, also 26, of Sitio Dumlog, Barangay Poblacion, New Washington, a police report showed.

Batoleno and Dela Cruz are working in an establishment in the town as helpers.

They were caught after they sold three sachets of dried marijuana leaves to a poseur-buyer for P1,500 along Mackinley Road in Barangay Polo, New Washington, the report added.

Personnel of the Aklan Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and New Washington municipal police station staged the antidrug operation.

The suspects were brought to Iloilo City for drug testing. Now detained, they are set to face charges for violation of sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
