IF A SIMPLE picture can express a thousand words, the president of the Central Philippines State University (CPSU) in Kabankalan City, Negros Oriental can be literally described as “a man with a thousand works.”
Why? Because in so short period of time, barely a year since he was elected to lead the “country’s first agricultural institution,” Dr. Aladino C. Moraca has done so much, not only for the benefit and improvement of the university, but as well as for the marginalized sector in the different areas of the province of Negros Occidental.
Following his investiture just a couple of months ago, Moraca has already committed to devotedly serve the CPSU with the best of his capabilities to pursue an innovative governance, introduce and implement life changing technologies – with integrity, dignity, and credibility as the backbone and language of his leadership.
A graduate of the said institution, Moraca says CPSU has always been his defining identity because it has been a place where there is always freedom of expression, word, and action.
The CPSU has conditioned and prepared Moraca for any possible event and trained him how to be observant and tough in a fiercely competitive situation.
Under the new leadership of Moraca, the CPSU has already started working peacefully in partnership with the farmers and other stakeholders occupying the reservation of the university to increase productivity and attain food security in the area.
He has also motivated the faculty and staff to participate in local and international training and development programs to further develop their potentials and readiness in providing practical and good quality education for the students.
This will allow the increase of the passing percentage of the students in the different Board Examinations, which would propel the CPSU to be recognized as among the leading universities in agriculture and allied technologies – the mandate why the institution was mainly created or established in 1946.
Moraca has likewise strengthened the research and development and extension programs of the CPSU to expedite the process of developing practical and appropriate technologies leading to the creation of an industry in the rural areas.
Aside from his sincere efforts in improving the CPSU as a whole, the labour of Moraca has started to gain the recognition of the outside sector following his recent election as the new Chairperson of the Western Visayas Consortium for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (WVCIEERD).
This would be “another feather in the cap” of Moraca, where he will be serving the consortium for three years.
WVCIEERD is presently composed of 21 member-institutions that are mostly government and private universities and colleges in Western Visayas, which are the leading organizations conducting different Research and Development (R&D) activities related to Industry, Energy, and other Emerging Technologies in the region.
Now faced with the opportunities and challenges, Moraca is, more than ever, determined to make the CPSU one of the leading institutions on agriculture and allied technologies by 2030, and perhaps the center of development and excellence in 2022. (jaypeeyap@ymail.com/PN)
