MANILA – Another Western Visayas-based athletics player is set to strut her wares in the Big City.
Ilongga jumper Alexie Mae Caimoso Brooks formalized her commitment to the National University (NU).
The Leon, Iloilo-native Brooks said it took her some time to make a commitment. She consulted her family, her head coach Noel Diel and her father figure Iloilo province, Sports Development Officer IV Ray Cabarles.
“I chose NU because I know they are willing to help me develop my full potential,” said Brooks who was a many-time gold medal winner as high jump athlete in the WVRAA Meet and Palarong Pambansa.
“Another thing why I chose NU is because I will take up a business course in the college and I believe it is the best school for that course. They are the people na mas makakatulong sa akin in the long run,” she added.
Aside from Lady Bulldogs, Brooks has also drawn interest from other Manila-based schools – University of Santo Tomas, University of the Philippines, De La Salle University, and Ateneo de Manila University.
The 5-foot-9 Brooks added that she is not closing her doors on becoming a two-way athlete with NU after receiving an invitation from NU Lady Bulldogs head coach Patrick Aquino to try her luck in the university’s women’s basketball team.
“When the coaching staff of NU women’s basketball team saw me at the Palaro last year, they asked me if I can dunk then they asked me if I am interested to join them. I said I will consider it,” Brooks said.
She, however, clarified, “I want to focus first sa athletics sa first year ko. At the same time I will get my body ready to try sa women’s basketball team nila. I am also considering sa women’s volleyball team ng NU.”/PN
