ILOILO City – Newly elected officials in Western Visayas should undergo training before they assume office on June 30, according to Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 6 head Engineer Ariel Iglesia.
These new officials include governors, vice governors, Provincial Board members, municipal/city mayor and vice mayor, and councilors.
“Ang mga newly minted or bago sa position, sila ay tatawagin ng DILG bago mag-assume ng office,” said Iglesia.
The Local Government Academy – a DILG attached agency that focuses on capacity building of local government officials – will spearhead the training.
The training will revolve on topics like local governance, functions of public officials and plans after assuming office, among others.
It is a general orientation.
The training may last for two days, he added.
Reelected officials will also undergo training but Iglesia said the DILG will prioritize those who are new to their positions.
He also said the officials “have an option” to enroll in other training institutions if they like.
“Wala namang masama.
The Local Government Academy will announce the training dates soon./PN
