MANILA – Court of Appeals (CA) justice Henri Jean Paul Inting was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as the newest associate justice of the Supreme Court (SC), completing the 15-person tribunal.
Department of Justice (DOJ) secretary Menardo Guevarra said Inting will be occupying the seat vacated by Lucas Bersamin, who was named by Duterte as SC chief justice last year.
The 61-year-old Inting became part of the CA in 2012, prior to which he served as Quezon City Regional Trial Court judge, a municipal trial court judge, a public attorney, and a prosecutor.
Inting was the senior corporate attorney for the National Housing Authority government corporation in 1983 and supervising staff assistant in the Intermediate Appellate Court (now the CA) in 1984.
He was a native of Davao del Sur and a graduate of the Ateneo de Davao University, a brother of former CA justice and now Commission on Elections commissioner Socorro Inting.
Inting was the eighth SC associate justice to be appointed by Duterte after Noel Tijam, Andres Reyes Jr., Alexander Gesmundo, Jose Reyes Jr., Samuel Martires, Ramon Paul Hernando and Amy Lazaro-Javier.
However, Martires did not last long at the high court as he was appointed by Duterte to the Office of Ombudsman last year. /PN
