MALAY, Aklan – The Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force (BIATF) will continuously managed the affairs of this famed island resort until April 2020.
Natividad Belarmino, general manager of the Boracay Inter Agency Management and Rehabilitation Group, said the local government will still abide the mandates of the task force assigned to rehabilitate the island.
On May 13, Malay mayor Ciceron Cawaling was re-elected.
The mayor-elect is empowered to decide in managing his jurisdiction, cited on the local government code.
However, the affairs of Boracay were taken over by BIATF after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered its closure last year.
“By April 2020, the task force will hand over the management of Boracay to the local government,” Belarmino said.
Cawaling meanwhile stated he is willing to make arrangements between the task force.
The Malay mayor won another term during the May 13 midterm polls.
After the Commission on Elections proclaimed his victory, Cawaling called for unity of stakeholders in this word-famous island.
“Kailangan pagtulungan natin na magkaroon ng tamang relasyon ang national at local governments. Kalimutan na natin ang nakalipas, moving forward tayo,” he said./PN
