MANILA – Petro Gazz Angels cruised to its second straight win in the PVL Reinforced Conference Season 3 after a 25-19, 25-21, 25-12 win over BanKo Perlas Spikers on Wednesday evening at San Juan Arena.
American import Janisa Johnson hammered 21 points, with 19 attacks, while Cuban reinforcement Wilma Salas had 18 points with eight digs with 14 excellent receptions for the Angels.
After handily winning the first set, the Angels opened the second frame with a 9-1 lead before the Lady Spikers cut it to 12-11. Petro Gazz, however, leaned on Johnson and Salas to pull away.
In the third set, the Angels raced to a comfortable 10-point cushion at 20-10 on back-to-back hits by Johnson. Errors from the Lady Spikers allowed the Angels to closed the match in three sets.
“Swerte ulit. We have two high percentage imports,” said Angels head coach Arnold Laniog. “But overall ‘yung game plan nasunod at nasa part ng coaching staff talaga. Second game, it’s too early kaya one game at a time lang.”
Nicole Tiamzon was the only Lady Spikers to score in double figures with 11 points, while Turkish import Yasemin Yildirim and American reinforcement Kia Bright combined for 15 points.
Meanwhile, defending champions Creamline Cool Smashers recovered from opening day defeat to the Angel with a 25-21, 25-16, 25-18 sweep over Pacific Town–Army Lady Troopers.
Michelle Gumabao led the way with 13 points, while Alyssa Valdez and Venezuelan reinforcement Aleoscar Blanco supplied 12 markers apiece for the Cool Smashers, which tied Lady Troopers with 1-1./PN
