MANILA – Kaya Football Club-Iloilo cruised to its second consecutive victory after a 2-0 blanking of Stallion-Laguna at the 2019 Philippines Football League on Wednesday at the Biñan Football Stadium in Biñan, Laguna.
Ilonggo Jovin Bedic opened the scoring for the Iloilo City-based football team as he buried his penalty in the top right corner from a foul committed against teammate Darryl Roberts.
Stallion Laguna became aggressive with OJ Clarino and Nathan Alquiros nearly pulling off an equalizer but he was denied by the defense of Kaya-Iloilo goal keeper Louie Michael Casas.
Stallion Laguna had another chance to tie at the 70th minute but Ilonggo Jan Jesus Melliza’s shot was off target. Kaya-Iloilo went for the kill with two minutes left on a precise finish from outside the box by Jordan Mintah.
“From the first minute, my players showed that they had that desire to get the three points,” said Kaya head coach Noel Marcaida. “Playing Stallion in their home is not easy. But we came with a plan to stop their quick attacks.”
With the victory, the Ilonggos surged to solo first place in the standings with six points, while Stallion-Laguna is at third place with one point on one draw and a defeat.
Over at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, Christian Zubiri scored on a go-ahead goal in the second half as the Green Archers United Globe FC entered the win-column by beating Global Makati FC, 1-0./PN
