ILOILO City – An employee of a courier service firm was robbed by riding-in-tandem motorcyclists on Valeria Street, City Proper.
Allan Loredo, 46, an employee of LBC Express and a resident of Brgy. Quintin Salas, Jaro district, reported to the police that he had lost P143,000 to two robbers riding on a motorcycle.
Loredo claimed that he had just withdrawn money from Banco de Oro branch on Valeria St. While on his way to their office on Bonifacio Drive, City Proper at 1 p.m. on Monday, a motorcycle stopped beside him; its back rider suddenly snatched his backpack with the money.
He said the money belonged to their company.
On the other hand, the Iloilo City Police chief, Chief Insp. Alexander Rosales, was not convinced of the allegation of the victim.
Rosales said there is a inconsistency in the allegation of the victim that he was robbed at 1 p.m. and the back rider who snatched his backpack was not wearing a helmet.
However, when Rosales interviewed a guard assigned in a mall near the crime scene, the guard said there was really a snatching incident around 11 a.m., not 1 p.m.
The guard added that both the driver and the back rider were wearing helmets, contrary to the allegation of the victim.
“We have to coordinate with the BDO if he really had withdrawn the same amount,” Rosales said.
Meanwhile, the Iloilo City police director, Senior Supt. Ruperto Floro said he had directed his police chiefs and intelligence officers to deploy personnel around the city streets and detail more personnel in malls.
He also directed the Public Safety Company to help for police visibility./PN
