LEA Salonga took to social media to share her thoughts about the new live action film “Aladdin” starring Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott.
On Facebook, Salonga said: “For all that’s been said about the new live action Aladdin, even without seeing the movie, my takeaway is this: a movie set in a fictional city in the Middle East starring all shades of brown people and making beaucoup bucks at the box office can only be a good thing.”
“If this aids in changing the way we as outsiders view this part of the world and people from there, it will all have been worth it,” she added.
Salonga also talked about how impressive Scott was in recording “Speechless,” a new song that’s included in the movie’s soundtrack.
“First of all… YES, Naomi Scott! Second of all… YES, Menken and Pasek & Paul! Couldn’t help but feel myself getting all up in my feelings listening to this brand new song for the live action Aladdin. I may need to test my vocal cords with,” she wrote on Twitter.
Salonga provided the singing voice of Jasmine in the original “Aladdin” and also recorded the main theme song “A Whole New World” in 1992. The new version from the live action movie was performed by Massoud and Scott.
The Disney live-action adaptation tells the story of Aladdin, a kindhearted street urchin, and power-hungry Grand Vizier Jafar as they view for a magic lamp that has the power to make their deepest wishes come true.
It opened in cinemas nationwide on May 22. (ABS-CBN News)
