BACOLOD City – Councilor Em Ang, chairwoman of the city government’s committee on tourism, confirmed the first Bacolod Esplanade will be open to public after its inauguration on June 17.

The esplanade is located at the Lupit River going downstream half a kilometer going to Bacolod City Government Center in Barangay Villamonte.

Prior to its opening, Ang said she had proposed an ordinance regulating activities in Bacolod Esplanade after receiving reports that a portion of it was vandalized.

“There is a need to regulate all activities at the esplanade in order to achieve the primary purpose why it was constructed,” the councilor stressed.

Ang explained it was built primarily as a park wherein locals and tourists alike could unwind.

She also reiterated the quality of the esplanade should be preserved and maintained at all times.

District Engineer Abraham Villareal of the Department of Public Works and Highways meanwhile said

they already referred the esplanade’s vandalized portion to the project contractor.

“The contractor has still one year to maintain the structure and they have to clean it,” Villareal explained.

Bacolod Esplanade will be turned over to the city government. They will be the one to regulate and maintain its beauty and cleanliness, Villarreal added./PN
