MANILA – Malacañang urged those allegedly defrauded by religious group Kapa Community Ministry International, Inc. to file the necessary charges.
Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said the victims of the scam will have a chance to get the money defrauded to them if they file criminal and civil cases against the owner of the religious group.
“Those defrauded will have to file cases against this owner, and they can recover. They will have to file criminal and civil suits,” Panelo said. “Kung gusto mo makuha ang pera mo ulit, siyempre.”
President Rodrigo Duterte, in a television interview over the weekend, ordered the shutdown of Kapa, which was allegedly involved in pyramiding schemes.
Kapa was earlier flagged by the Securities and Exchange Commission for allegedly soliciting investments in the form of donations and at a monthly interest rate of 30 percent.
Panelo, meanwhile, denied the allegations that Kingdom of Jesus Christ head Pastor Apollo Quiboloy instigated Duterte’s crackdown on the investment scheme saying that the government will also do the same to other similar investment schemes.
“The issue is: Has this particular entity defrauded those who invested? That’s the issue,” Panelo said. “Kapag nalaman nating mayroong mga ganiyan, dapat talagang ipasarado.”/PN
