Antique kicks off sustainable livelihood program

SAN JOSE, Antique – The province of Antique is now implementing its P55-million Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) starting with four initial projects.

“Antique has a total of 147 approved projects and four were already implemented,” said Antique SLP in-charge Geralyn Flores on Thursday.

She said the proposals for these projects were approved just this year. It was submitted by the beneficiaries from various municipalities in province last 2018.

“The 147 projects have of a total budget of P55,910,000 through the Department of Social Welfare and Development,” Flores noted.

One project, the Buri and Bari, received the seed capital worth P2.37 million with 158 beneficiaries from the town of Pandan. It was started last January.

The Buri and Bari project’s beneficiaries were the locals making indigenous products such as bags, sleeping mats, trays and items made of buri and bariw.

“Buri” is the largest and most common palm found in the country while “bariw” is a local material available in the town of Pandan.

“We also have a tie-up with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Antique province office for the Cookery and Driving National Competency II in Sibalom town,” she said. (With a report from PNA/PN)
