SAN JOSE, Antique – The Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO) here is preparing for “Pista ng Kagubatan”, an annual “tree-growing” activity aimed to rehabilitate watershed areas and denuded forest lands.

Vivian Marfil, PENRO officer, said all local government units in Antique are enjoined to participate in the simultaneous tree planting activity.

“Barangay officials, schools and community in general are encouraged to join the activity since protecting and conserving the environment is everybody’s concern,” said Marfil

The province-wide celebration, mandated by virtue of Provincial Ordinance 2015-109, is slated on June 28.

Marfil noted provincial and national government agencies will start at Barangay Aningalan in San Remigio town, while local participants can choose their planting site.

She urged the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officers of each town in Antique to establish their own nurseries for trees.

“If they don’t have enough seedlings, they can request from ENRO,” she clarified.

Marfil said the 80,000 seedlings grown at ENRO’s plant nursery will be used during the planting activity. (With a report from PIA Antique/PN)
