MANILA – Creamline Cool Smashers handed Petro Gazz Angels its first defeat in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference with a 25-18, 21-25, 25-19, 26-24 beating on Saturday night at San Juan Arena.
Kuttika Kaewpin registered triple-double with 18 points, 17 digs and 14 excellent receptions, while Alyssa Valdez and Venezuelan Ale Blanco finished with 16 and 12 points, respectively, for the Cool Smashers (7-1).
Julia Morado also made her presence felt with 23 excellent sets to go along with eight point while Michele Gumabao added eight markers for the Cool Smashers, which avenged their first round loss to the Angels.
Holding a 2-1 set lead entering the fourth set, the Cool Smashers had an early lead but a huge response from the Angels move them on the verge of forcing a fifth set with a 24-21 lead.
The Cool Smashers forced a 24-all deadlock on hits from Blanco and Valdez before taking the lead on an error by the Angels. Valdez clinched the victory for the Creamline with a hit.
Wilma Salas finished with double-double 23 points and 13 digs, while Janisa Johnson chipped in 22 points and 19 excellent receptions for the Angels, which suffered its first loss in eight games.
Meanwhile, Motolite came back from two sets down to score a 23-25, 23-25, 25-14, 25-14, 15-12 victory over the Bali Pure Water Defenders, which was eliminated from playoffs with the loss.
Imports Channon Thompson scored 27 points off 22 attacks, three kill blocks and two aces, while Krystle Esdelle got 24 markers including 20 from kills for the streaking Motolite. /PN
